Pharmacy Inspections
Inspections of registered retail pharmacy businesses are carried out by the PSI to assess compliance with the Pharmacy Act 2007 and other relevant legislation (including the Regulation of Retail Pharmacy Businesses Regulations 2008 and guidelines issued by the PSI to facilitate compliance with these regulations or other requirements), to ascertain whether any breach of the Code of Conduct for pharmacists or any professional misconduct has been committed, or to obtain information or evidence about these matters.
These inspections are not notified in advance.
The PSI has prepared a short guide to what to expect from the inspection process and a checklist for regular/systems pharmacy inspections to assist pharmacists and pharmacy owners to prepare for a future inspection. An inspections podcast was also produced by the PSI and is a useful resource. Inspectors also provide advice on non-compliance issues in the PSI Newsletter and these are updated to the Inspectors' Advice page.
Other useful documentation, such as the PSI’s Pharmacy Practice Guidance Manual, guidelines issued by the PSI to facilitate compliance with the Regulation of Retail Pharmacy Businesses Regulations 2008, and other practice notices and guidance issued by the PSI is available on this website in the Pharmacy Practice section.
